My new Writing Desk Project was a surprise!

My new Writing Desk Project was a surprise!

by Rita Davidson

BlackTableAs many of you know I’m a writer and published author. Since our fire, writing and teaching has become my main work, mostly due to the NEED I see. AND because God was SOOO good to save my book, “Immodesty, Satan’s Virtue” from our fire, under 6 feet deep of charcoal. THAT was a sign I better get it done for a new set of readers! But, my tired old black table (my writing desk) needed a lift. (much like some of us moms eh?) 🙂

2MarkStrippingtableSO I convinced Mark to start stripping the top. THAT took LOTS of coaxing (he hates chemicals) and well I’m not too fond of them either that’s why I asked him! LOL  But the good hubby he is, there he is stripping it for me. (God love him) This was a table donated to us after our fire. Everything we own has come from donations. How generous God was to us and how wonderful those souls that thought of us. We pray for them EVERY day. Now see those nice pine boards underneath? I was dead set on imagining a nice clear pine top, with white legs. That is what I was thinking…that’s not always what you get.

RitaPaintinglegsWhile Mark was stripping the legs, I proved to my Facebook readers, that you CAN PAINT in a SKIRT. That went over pretty well. 🙂  You can see that blur of a brush in the lower right corner? That is Joseph, trying to PAINT for me. It was all I could do to keep him from ruining the work. haha

5redonwoodMark and I were NOT prepared for THIS? What is that RED coming under that black?

3tableRedAs Mark was stripping the black off, this red started coming through EVERYWHERE. WHAT IS that, it WAS pine underneath? What will we do now I thought? By this time it was Day 2, and we were getting pretty tired of working on this in the heat.

white legs doneI finally got my new legs all done…well NOT MINE, but you get the idea. 🙂 The one on the right is just with the primer, the three on the left are done in a nice cream white, with some ‘aging’ to add character thanks to inspiration from Jennifer @themagicbrush. 🙂

legswhitedetailsHere’s a close up of some details of the “aging’ I did. I kinda like it don’t you?

redtable2But back to this, what to do with this splotchy red? 4 Days had passed (we took a day off too) and we were about done with this. I posted this on my Facebook page, and everyone was saying, strip it again and restain it. I was like WHOA…I’m WAY too tired for that. (I’m impatient you see). So, after much thought, I just coated it with Tung Oil. Quite a few coats of it and buffed it up and it’s good to go I think?

FinishedTableTA DA! This boring black table didn’t turn out what I thought, but wow, this is a nice diversion isn’t it? Much like our lives, when things don’t go as planned. We whine and cry and can’t see how God gave us a good detour from our plans. Until we finally ‘land’ there, and look back then we see how much better this really was for us than what we first planned.

Oh Lord, that we may SEE! That we may SEE that your WILL is best for always!

Now to wax my new OFFICE floor and put my office back together. I’m SOOO Excited to finish my “Immodesty” book with my new desk and even MORE excited to share a LIVE CALL with you all next Tuesday. (see it HERE if you missed it).

With my new office done, I’ll have lots of surprises for you all!

May you all have a blessed day!
with love,

Rita Xo 🙂
