Real Catholic Beauty, means loving your Mother

By Rita Davidson

Regardless of what year you were born you were born to – a mother.

No matter how angry you are at your own mother, you had – a mother.

Even if you do not have children of your own, you still have motherhood in your heart for all those who you love with a mothers heart.

Yesterday was Mother’s day, but this wasn’t the only thing that made me explore this topic. Let me explain.

If you are young enough to still have your mother, you are lucky. I am blessed to still have my mother. Though I never knew my grandmothers, I always wished I did.

When I was young I went through a terrible time with my mother. I blamed her for everything in my life. Recently I was reminded of this when I found a letter of mine to her at age 12 or so. We have been going through all her papers and sorting things. It’s been kind of bittersweet for me as we lost everything in our fire, and so it’s odd to see some things of mine that my mother finds amongst her things. But this letter, Oh the piercing words I wrote to her. The bitter words. How could God save this letter for me, after all these years?

It was one of the memories I had forgotten. I would have liked to forget this one. How battered our mothers are. Honor your Mother and Father means nothing when you’re a teen. We can be so cruel to our mothers.

I hear from SO many heartbroken mothers who have children that will no longer speak to them. The pain in their hearts I know so well. Fast forward; I too have those same cruel letters written to me by my own flesh and blood.

As my own mother is now aging I am trying to care for her increasing needs as well as I can. As her memory fades and her gait is slower, I am reminded how, I thought this woman was my worst enemy, keeping me from my “life”.

I struggle knowing how childish and selfish I was and knowing all I can do now is make up for those hard years and do the best I can.

But we all have another Mother that we often forget. Sometimes we are even cruel to her and her heart breaks too. How often do we remember Our Lady? She was the greatest example of perfect motherhood. It was she who brought salvation into the world for us. How often do we remember her? How often do we heed her call to “say the rosary daily” for the “conversion of sinners”?

As this is the Month of Mary – May I’ve started to read an old book I have on Fatima. May 13th will be the 98th anniversary of her appearance at Fatima. 98 long years ago she appeared to 3 shepherd children to pass along a message and a secret. As I look over the last 98 years I see how the Church has crumbled. The faithful are struggling to find the faith, and keep their families together. Society has an ever, greater push for sins that cry to heaven for vengeance.

While Catholics are sleeping at the helm and bewailing the “great chastisement” coming, they are missing the boat.

In 1917 our Lady said, “If people will do what I will tell you, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace.”

“Continue to say the Rosary everyday in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war; for she alone can save it.”

The unborn are now killed by the MILLIONS – EVERY YEAR. How is THAT for a Mother’s day statistic? Just looking at these statistics we see how 37% of women getting abortions in the US are some form of Christian – 28% CATHOLIC. 1 What does this say for the Church today?!

If 28% of Catholic women can walk into an abortion clinic today and let their unborn baby be torn from their wombs, who is DOING what Our Lady asked at Fatima?

The reasons women gave for having an abortion:

“Three-fourths of women cite concern for or responsibility to other individuals; three-fourths say they cannot afford a child;

three-fourths say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or the ability to care for dependents;

and half say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner” 2

Death has now entered the Church. While we are all bemoaning the downward slide to euthanasia in the Netherlands and the push for it in America, we are being battered on all sides by the death machine that is seeking to distract us all from the task at hand. While the faithful sit around and store up “canned foods” and “special seeds” for the dark days ahead, where are the faithful that are fulfilling Our Lady’s request at Fatima?

Our Mother in heaven, didn’t ask us to store up anything, she asked us to say the Rosary everyday to obtain peace for the world, she alone can save it. She alone is the answer to the evils that are enveloping our world.

We must NOT be fooled into thinking ALL is LOST. If all is LOST it is because not ENOUGH of us are doing what is required of us. That is why I don’t believe in the “coming chastisement”, or the “Three Days are darkness”. Sorry I just don’t.

I believe we all hold the KEY to bringing peace back to our families and the world. They are only distractions planted to keep us from doing what Our Lady asked.

What did she ask? “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners; and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice:

“My Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

Say often this beautiful prayer I found that Lucia was inspired to say,

“My God, I love You, in gratitude for the graces You have given me.”

In this way cultivate love and gratitude to God for your life and the mercies He has shown you.

Maybe you’re a mother with no one left to remember you? Take the time to remember Our Lady who is so much offended by the world. If you have not begun to say the daily rosary, start today. Say often the prayers above and strive to love God more and more each day.

Give UP your fear for the world and the future and instead lay it to rest on your Mothers’ lap. Like a good child do what she asks to show your love to her, she will be sure to take good care of the least of your cares.

Remember, #RealCatholicBeauty is loving your Mother, here on earth and doing what Our Mother in Heaven has asked us so long ago.

Start today without delay!

With love,
