A special needs lent and a Blessed Easter

From our Family to yours!

I hope you and your family have a blessed Easter! Thank you THANK YOU for all your Easter wishes to us!!!!! Ours was QUIET…with special needs boys, and my mom with dementia it’s all we can do to get through the day with no mishaps. We spent the last of Holy Week with various illnesses, and a NASTY sinus headache for me.

Of course, that peace quickly vanished when we discovered our son with autism (who LOVES to clean) had emptied my ENTIRE SHED that contains our fire remnants, and memorabilia from my mother. All emptied into the laneway so he could ‘sweep’. GASP and <SHUDDER>

Then it began to rain….

oh woe is me…I thought as I started to put everything back, starting with the more delicate items first. All I could keep thinking…is what is all this stuff anyhow but memories…After getting plenty wet and getting it all back in…I’ve resolved to get…a better LOCK.

That said, it’s been a GOOD lent…meaning we’ve had our shares of illness, we put our house up for sale, lost a beautiful house, and we successfully did not snack – DID ANYONE SAY we could SNACK now?!! I mean we can SNAAAACKKKKKK !!! haha  who missed that? 🙂

I did NOT paint my toenails AT ALL during Lent, (you all know how I LOVE my nails!) I didn’t listen to any secular music (not that I do that much but…still). We ate meat just once a day, even with our low blood sugar issues and being dairyfree/glutenfree and learned to like BEANS. LOL

Sigh… It is Finished….He said from the Cross. At that moment our redemption was done.

Thank you Holy Mother Church for the penance of Lent, that reminds us of who we are and WHERE WE ARE GOING.

  • I’ve heard from some of you that welcomed a NEW BABY!!! Some of you who lost babies this day. 🙁
  • Some of you having anniversaries! Some of you mourning loved ones you lost. 🙁
  • Some of you are eating tooooo much…..(yes I’ve seen you on Facebook! haha ) and some of you can barely lift for head from being sick. 🙁

And I’ve LOVED LOVED LOVED to see you all in your Easter DRESSES. Ladies..I mean.:) …Ladies you just MUST keep wearing those AFTER Easter…oh PLEEEZEE….Your husbands will be SOOOO surprised! 😉 Believe me!

So that was our Lent and Easter….and here are a few of my FAVORITE Lenten movies that I thought I’d share with you. We loved them especially this year…I hope you will too. For those saying you couldn’t find them here are links to all of them too! (yes affiliate links as long as you don’t mind supporting our rebuilding efforts!) 🙂

A Child called Jesus

This is a less well-known movie, though I have mentioned it before. Very well acted and the sets are BEAUTIFUL. This story shows Jesus as a child as we might love to imagine Him, it enlarges the heart muscle. Yes, this one does. Get it right here:

Son of God

This story taken from the larger Bible Story Series by Roma Downey, is a new look at the story of Jesus from birth to Ressurrection. Saint Peter in this story is really brought out well and I love the humility of this Jesus portrayed by Diogo Morgado. Another story that really brings out those details our souls crave to know Jesus more. Tissue alert!!! Grab it here:

The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson

Who has NOT seen this family favorite? Well if you have sheepishly been avoiding it (for whatever reason?!?) now is the time to grab this and give it a chance. The cut scenes of Our Lord as a Child with Mary are worth the ENTIRE movie. BEAUTIFUL soundtrack…pleeeze get it here:

RISEN

A newer movie that I reviewed last year, you can see that HERE.

A new story told from the eyes of a non-believer, Roman tribune. Interesting take, very much of interest I think to teen boys and perhaps men who like a more analytical look at this topic. Again, anything that expands our understanding of the times helps us better understand Our Lord. You can get it right here:

I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into our special needs lent and these movies that really  made it special for us.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever…

Tell us about your lent and Easter, how did it go? Were you held back by illness or carried some heavy crosses?

Thinking of you and praying for you always.

With much love….and where’s my chocolate!
