Working out the Kinks in your Faith & Health
By Rita Davidson
Well, I figured I’d share what I’ve been up too. As some of you know I’ve been gluten free for nearly 3 years now. That was quite the change, but after having a severe adrenal crash in 2011, it was time for a change.
Now a few weeks ago, I just had another adrenal crash. This time not as severe; but enough to cause me to slow down and pay attention. Its not easy to be sick for anyone. And when you have so many responsibilities it is even harder. None of us have time to take time off, whether we are working from home, like me; or busy with children, gardens and well, life!
Sometimes it gets so frustrating we forget how God wants us to deal with this. We all want to improve our spiritual life, want to pray better or more. But, we’re so sick we can’t pray. So sick, we have no energy to talk to God. It doesn’t take long for us to resent being sick and how much we are failing at life.
But, we forgot that God doesn’t expect us to go looking for crosses. He doesn’t expect us to look for suffering. But often, we forget the crosses that God has laid at our feet, and instead complain and whine how this is keeping us from our duties.
Well the most important secret has just been overlooked. The secret to our spiritual life, is to look right down at our feet. Right there, in front of you is that cross that God has laid there. He knows what you need and sent you the right remedy and you overlooked it and complained how the flu kept you from going to Mass.
“Oh my,” God chuckles, ”will she ever learn? I’ve given her a cross more beautiful than anything I’ve given her yet.”
Does this sound like you? Well, this is sure me! When I was told I had to go dairy-free. Oh my, no way, really? Ugh…. Oh you bet this is me! I forget and forget and then BAM it hits me, oh THIS is the cross He means for me to pick up?
So, today is my third day going Dairy-free now. It’s not so bad actually. I have Coconut milk for my ONE and only coffee per day. I’ve cut out all sugar too. (I never had a sweet tooth much thankfully). Well, then there is that CHOCOLATE I love…. J
If we can only look deeply into our lives and see the gems sitting there waiting for us to grasp them. Those sweet crosses that God has gently kissed before He laid them at our feet. Don’t overlook those mundane things in your daily life. The dishes, taking out the garbage, or changing those dirty diapers. What about that lost job, or the death of a friend? There is never an end to the unique crosses that God can send us, I always say. Let us not look outside ourselves for crosses but look into our own life, and pick up the ones that are right before us as St. Therese did so well.
Because, God is so merciful, He will likely send us those crosses as He works the kinks out of our health at the same time. I think that is what is happening to me. I feel better already. Don’t miss those blessings in disguise. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
Please share with me, your health challenges or your Faith challenges! I SO LOVE to hear from you!
With love,
Rita Xo 🙂
